Today, Leadership Florida announced the members of the Leadership Florida Education Class IV. Among those selected for this prestigious honor was Kadie Hayward Mullins, New Leaders Council-Orlando alumna and current Co. Director.

'For thirty-seven years, Leadership Florida has produced programs for Florida leaders who are diverse in their professional, geographic, and philosophical perspectives. Thanks to the funding by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Helios Education Foundation, Florida Department of Education, Florida Education Foundation, and PNC Bank, Leadership Florida has been able to provide the same world-class programming for Florida educators who have a passion for education and the state of Florida," read the Leadership Florida press release.

It continues "Leadership Florida Education Class IV includes accomplished superintendents, school board members, principals, teachers, state education department professionals, education foundation representatives, association leaders, business partners, and other public officials.  Over the course of eight months, the class members will intensively focus on the opportunities and challenges associated with making Florida the number one state in the country for public education.  Each session will provide program participants with a comprehensive look at K-12 education from international, national and statewide perspectives for the purpose of advancing K-12 outcomes in Florida."

Meet Patti

Patti is honing her skills as a Data Artist and Marketing Strategist. She has been telling stories with data her entire career, first with advertising campaign reports to, most recently, Quarterly Business Reviews for recruitment advertisers on their overall hire data.  Making the data come alive in the simplest images and having her client wide-eyed with wonder at the insights gleaned, is her favorite business pastime.

Patti spent more than a decade honing her Media Negotiation skills, both as a Media Planner and as a Digital Billboard Manager (the sales side of media). She's practical, analytical, and is passionate about numbers, from the initial proper set up of a campaign to the final analysis and building Lessons Learned for next time.  Some would say that because Patti understands Media and Analysis, she's a unicorn.

Community is important to Patti.  As a resident of College Park, she is a member of the College Park Neighborhood Association and is on the board of the Mainstreet program.  You’ll see her and her husband at their table at every Dancing on the Drive and Jazz Fest entertaining friends and dancing the night away.

Patti was a 2017 Orlando Fellow and is continuing her role as an At Large board member for the 2018-2019 year.

For some of us, Crazy Rich Asians is just a great excuse to get the NLC-Orlando family together but the film, that marks the first in nearly three decades to feature an all Asian cast means so much more. Though the film, based off of the wildly properly books by Kevin Kwan, feels familiar to any rom-com lover, featuring many of the same tropes, Crazy Rich Asians portrays Asian characters in a way not often seen in Western media. The breathtaking visuals and culturally relevant and representative inclusions paint a picture we don't often see in the white-dominated, Western film industry. Though this is just one small step towards elevating the stories of the AAPI community, it has shown to be a successful one, taking the top spot at the box office during its debut weekend.

As progressives, we must work hard to lift these voices - our wallets are a powerful way to do so. If you haven't seen Crazy Rich Asians yet, we encourage you to do so!
